About Anna Creek Cabin

Overview

Anna Creek Cabin is located 30 miles south of the town of Hungry Horse, perched above Hungry Horse Reservoir with sweeping views of the reservoir and the Great Bear Wilderness. Winter - Access road not maintained/plowed for wheeled-vehicle travel. Plan on winter access via a 24-mile snowmobile ride or other over-the-snow vehicle on an ungroomed route. The cabin provides a private setting to enjoy the recreation opportunities along the west side of Hungry Horse Reservoir.

Recreation

Summer - The cabin location provides a base to explore the numerous recreation opportunities along the west side of Hungry Horse Reservoir. Visitors can access the water within a short drive to Graves Bay, Graves Creek or Handkerchief Lake for fishing, swimming or boating. Access to hiking trails along pioneer ridge or the east side of Jewel Basin are in close proximity to the cabin. Other popular activities such as driving for pleasure, berry picking, wildlife watching, and fishing are abundant in the area around the cabin.

Winter - The cabin provides a base for ample winter reacreation oppurtunities in the Swan Mountain Range. Please familarize yourself with the free winter over-the-snow maps available online, at the Hungry Horse Ranger Station, and at the cabin.

Facilities

This single story cabin is equipped with a propane cook stove/oven, 2 propane heaters, propane lights and accessible vault toilet. Indoor accommodations sleep up to 12 people on one double bed, two twin beds, two double/twin bunk beds, plus two twin roll out trundle beds. Outside, enjoy the campfire pit with barbecue grate and the deck on the south side of the cabin.

No drinking water or electricity are available. Guests should bring plenty of water, bedding, food, flashlights, basic camping gear, tools to gather outdoor firewood, among other necessities.

There is not a wood stove available at the cabin.

Natural Features

The cabin is set up above the West Side Hungry Horse Reservoir road providing privacy and scenic views. The west side of the cabin and large parking area backs up to the forest with Anna creek flowing through. The east side of the cabin offers open views of the Great Bear Wilderness. The site offers a nice mix of shade and sun.

Summer - Water access to Hungry Horse Reservoir, Graves Creek and Handkerchief Lake are a short drive away. See maps.

Winter 2020-2021 is the first winter season the cabin is available for rental during the winter. Please call Hungry Horse Ranger Station with quesitons prior to visit. Please let us know how we can improve the facility.

Winter Use - Park in designated overnight parking spots at Hungry Horse Dam Snowmobile Parking Area - see parking map at Hungry Horse Dam Parking Area. Due to limited overnight parking, try to carpool to HH Dam parking area or arrange drop-off/pick up. Access the cabin in winter via a 25 mile snowmobile ride.

Winter - Be aware of sliding snow from roof as cabin heats up. Please park snowmobiles and store gear accordingly.

Contact the ranger district office at (406) 387-3800, during business hours (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) for updates on weather and road conditions; refunds will not be given for inclement weather or road conditions.

The cabin remains locked; a combination lock code will be contained in the reservation confirmation letter.

Conserve propane by minimizing use of lights and turning off the heaters while away from the cabin.

Water is not available at the site. Be sure to bring all your water for your visit. Anna Creek flows for most of the season. Boil or treat any water from streams or lakes.

Please bring garbage bags; this is a 'pack-it-in, pack-it-out' facility.

Pets are allowed at the cabin. Pet food should be kept inside at all times. Clean up after your pet.

Guests must clean cabin prior to departure; a fee will be charged if extra clean-up is needed.

Check-out time is 1200 pm. Check-in time is 2 pm.

Grizzly bears frequent the area; use appropriate containers for food and garbage.

Commercial use of cabin is prohibited.

Don't Move Firewood: Prevent the spread of tree-killing pests by obtaining firewood near your destination and burning it on-site. For more information visit dontmovefirewood.org.

This is a remote cabin that may be unoccupied for extended periods of time. Mice may be present in cabin - there are supplies to trap mice and remove safely in cabin. Please do your part to help mitigate rodents by picking up food crumbs, cleaning thoroughly, and trapping mice if they are present.
