About Acorn Woman Lakes Campground

Overview

Acorn Womans Lake Campgrounds are nestled in a mixed-conifer forest on the banks of Acorn Womans Lake. The facility provides remote spread-out tent-only campsites that are reachable via foot trails. The unique, remote setting offers visitors stunning scenery and access to a multitude of recreational opportunities with a campsite far enough from other campsites. Some campsites are up to 0.8 of a mile from parking area, some are closer. Forest Service vault toilets are spread out and a short walk away.

Recreation

Hiking and fishing top the list of recreational opportunities at Acorn Womans Lake Campground. Two mountain lakes, a river and a handful of hiking trails are accessible from the campground.

Anglers enjoy the remote location and scenic backdrop of two natural lakes, providing excellent fishing opportunities for coldwater and warmwater species. Acorn Womans Lake sustains rainbow and cutthroat trout, yellow perch, brown bullhead and black bass. The smaller Lake provides a rare fishery for 8-11" wild, native coastal cutthroat trout. A 0.25-mile hiking trail connects the lakes. Motors are not permitted on the lakes.

From the campground, Acorn Womans Lake Trail is a 1-mile interpretive hike that provides visitors with many opportunities for picnicking and swimming. The 2-mile Summit Lake Trail travels through a mixed conifer forest and small water crossings.

Facilities

Acorn Womans Lake Campground contains 10 individual sites and five group sites. All sites are walk-in and designated for tent camping only. They are reachable by walking on foot trails from the parking area. Vehicles must be parked outside the gated area, and all personal belongings must be carried to the campsite. The closest campsites are approximately 1/4 mile from parking and the farthest campsites are approximately 1.5 miles from parking. SOMETIMES we do offer an ATV portage service for your camping gear. We will not transport people. This service is at the discretion of the Camp Host and charged at $25 per trip. For more info email info@applegatelake.com.

Picnic tables, campfire rings and vault toilets are provided. Drinking water is available on the East side hand pump by campsite #2. Campers must supply their own drinking water or have containers to fill at this handpump. Please note, there is a two-night minimum when you desire to reserve a Friday or Saturday night. Natural Features

The Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest is composed of two distinct geological provinces: the Cascade Range and the Siskiyou Mountains. The Cascade Range is dominated by snow-capped volcanic peaks such as 9,495 foot Mt. McLoughlin within the Sky Lakes Wilderness. The Siskiyou area embodies world-class rivers, remarkable fisheries and the most complex and treasured plant communities in the Pacific Northwest.

Diverse landscapes provide habitat for a wide-range of wildlife, from spotted owls and elk to salamanders and sandhill cranes.

Please see the recreation.gov rules & regulation policies. These policies are system-wide, and not specific to each facility. We are NOT staffed to handle or manage cancellations and/or changes via telephone. Please do not call or leave any messages for these issues. Please NOTE: In Southern Oregon, we unfortunately get difficult conditions due to forest fire smoke. The USFS has the difficult decisions as to whether to temporarily close these facilities, or for them to remain open. If the facilities are closed, refunds will be honored. If the facilities remain open, the sites will be maintained, and reservations will be honored. If you have any specific questions regarding cancellations/changes or mofications to your existing reservation, it may be evaluated on a case-by-case basis. FF means: First-come / First served. Acorn Woman Lakes has no-cell-service. We do not know if someone has already arrived and taken that spot. You can email us at info@applegatelake.com, and we can give you up-to-the-minute advice, but ultimately, you'll need drive up and take your chances. If the Camp Host is onsite, he/she will have the best information. If you take an empty site WITHOUT CHECKING IN WITH THE CAMP HOST, and a valid reservation shows-up, they obviously have preference to camp there. Due to the lack of available cell-reception, this in an imperfect system, that's why we always suggest advance-reservations.

If you have advance reservations, or you are attempting first-come /fist served camping, we always suggest that you check-in at Hart Tish Park General Store. You'll get the latest information, and maybe you can purchase some fogotten items, such as, an extra bag of ice.

Portage service MAY be available at $25 per trip. Please confirm this service BEFORE your visit. Email: info@applegatelake.com. Always have carts as a back up plan in case ATV is not available/broken down etc.

Vehicle parking is in designated parking lot area. DO NOT BLOCK THE GATE. No parking at individual campsites. / Campsites are hike-in, accessible only by foot trails. Each campsite is allowed 1-vehicle parking, each additional vehicle $7/night.

Please PRINT and BRING your Reservation confirmation AND PLACE ON DASHBOARD OF YOUR VEHICLE. Routine checks are made. Please print a copy of your camping reservation and place on your dashboard. This ensures the camp host will not think your vehicle is a day use visitor that did not pay. Thank you. EXTRA VEHICLES ARE $5 A DAY.

Only non-motorized boats allowed on lakes.

Firewood may be available for sale from Camp-Host. Bear bins are in place at the group sites only at this time.

When your first camping night is a Friday or Saturday night, a two-night minimum reservation is required.

Don't MOVE Firewood: Please protect Pacific Northwest forests by preventing the spread of invasive species. Firewood can carry insects and diseases that can threaten the health of our western forests. You can make a difference by obtaining and burning your firewood near your camping destination. Cancellations: Recreation.gov collects an $8 reservation fee, which is non-refundable. The campsite cancellation fee is a flat $10 for your entire reservation. EXAMPLE: if you booked (2) nites at $25 per nite, your total camping fee would be $58. If you cancelled at least 48-hours prior to your reservation arrival, your refund would be: $58-$8-$10 = $40 net refund. If you late cancel (within 48-hr of your arrival), you will also forfeit the first-nite camping fee. In this same example, you would be refunded: $58-$8-$10-$25 = $15 net refund. Processing refunds is time-consuming & expensive for the facility, and we potentially will not refill your camping spot. This loses revenue for the facility due to your situation & circumstances changing. The Facility is NOT responsible for acts of God / weather / fire-restrictions / smoke / or other things outside the control of the facility. Thanks for your understanding.

Fire and Smoke situation: The Facility is OPEN. However, the camp-host MAY NOT be on-site. This could mean no Portage or daily trash service. Please pack-in/pack-out . If you need toilet paper or trash bags, please stop by the Hart Tish Park General store, we will be happy to supply for free. Please email us BEFORE your arrival for the latest info. ALWAYS CHECK UPDATES OF CURRENT FIRE LEVELS AND RESTRICTIONS PRIOR TO YOUR LEAVING.
