About Stokes State Forest Campground

Tent sites at Lake Ocquittunk T001-T024 and Shotwell sites T101-T112 are open year round. Lake Ocquittunk sites T025-T026 are open March 15 to December 15, and Shotwell sites T121-T137 are open April 15 to December 15. Steam Mill tent sites are open April 15 to November 15. Group sites at Haskins and Lake Ashroe are open from April 15 to October 31. Lean-tos at Shotwell are open year round. There is a 2 night minimum to reserve or occupy lean-tos, and reservations must be made in advance. Our group lean-tos are currently closed. Family Cabins are open from April 1 to December 15. There is a one week minimum to reserve from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. During this time check in days are Friday for cabins 1 to 3, Saturday for cabins 4 to 6, Sunday for cabins 7-9 and Monday for cabins 10-12. Outside of those dates there is a 2 night minimum to reserve or occupy cabins. Cabin Reservations must be made in advance. Our Group Cabin is open from April 15 to December 15. There is a 2 night minimum to reserve or occupy our group cabin. Lean-tos and Cabins need a key to enter. If you arrive when the park office is closed, the key will be on a board on backside of the office with you name on it. PLEASE NOTE THAT SWIMMING IS NOT PERMITTED IN ANY OF THE LAKES AT STOKES STATE FOREST. Cancellation Policy - If you are unable to make your scheduled dates, you can make a change to your reservation for a $5.00 fee. Changes must be made prior to your check in date and time. If you are unable to reschedule, the cancellation policy for campsite (tents, trailers, primitive campsite, group campsites, wilderness campsite) is: $40 NJ Resident/$50 Out of State Resident or a two night use fee (whichever is less) and any transaction fee paid will be deducted from refund due. The cancellation policy for all other overnight facilities (cabins, group cabins, shelters, and lean-to) depends on when the cancellation is made. If you cancel seven days or less prior to your check-in date, one night use fee and any transaction fee will be deducted from refund due. If you cancel eight days or more prior to your check-in date, only the transaction fee paid will be deducted from refund due. Forested mountains, clear freshwater streams and scenic vistas characterize Stokes State Forest. Stokes is located along 12 miles of the Kittatinny Mountain Ridge, northwest of Branchville in Sussex County. The Appalachian Trail follows the Kittatinny Mountain Ridge through Stokes State Forest. In addition to the 12.5 miles of the Appalachian Trail, there are more than 33 miles of marked trails within Stokes State Forest. Trails vary in length and difficulty. Stokes State Forest has camping areas that vary from wooded and secluded to open field sites for larger groups.
