Swartswood State Park Campground

Come visit New Jersey’s first state park and historic landmark destination for outdoor recreation and leisure activities. Swartswood Lake is the park’s main attraction, welcoming visitors from all around to its calm waters for canoeing, kayaking, sailing, fishing, swimming or simply relaxing along the shores. This remote and rural area is off the beaten path and away from all major highways, but worth finding. During your visit, you won’t see jet skis or gas-powered motor boats racing across the 519-acre natural glacial lake ~ only electric motors are permitted. Instead, expect views of colorful sailboats, canoes, and kayaks on the still waters of Swartswood Lake. As a bonus, Little Swartswood Lake offers all of the same on a smaller scale, just minutes away by car or a short hike. Bring binoculars for a view of the eagle’s nest across the lake from the boat launch and the many resident bald eagles frequently seen around the area. So, pack your gear for the day or weekend and take advantage of all the activities the natural landscape has to offer.
