About Bonita Canyon Campground

Overview

Bonita Canyon Campground is located in Chiricahua National Monument, Willcox, AZ. Visitors love the historic, treed campsites, hiking the "Wonderland of Rocks" and bird watching opportunities.

NOTE: While some vehicles up to 29 feet may fit in the campground, the scenic drive is restricted to 24 feet. Scenic drive may be hazardous to tall or wide vehicles.

Chiricahua National Monument offers beautiful views, wildlife watching, and miles of hiking trails.

Facilities

IMPORTANT: Maximum vehicle length is 29 ft (9 m) bumper or hitch to bumper. Any trailer or vehicles over 29 feet OR with an overhang of more than 9 feet may "bottom out" on the road crossing the creek into the campground. Check the driveway length and notes to determine if a site is large enough for your tow vehicle and trailer. Be prepared to remove bike racks and hitches. Only a few sites will accommodate Trailers or RVs. Sites may be difficult to back into and may not be level.

No Hook Ups. (No electric, sewer, or dump station). Full-service campgrounds are available in Willcox or Sunizona, AZ.

An individual campsite will accommodate a maximum of 8 people, 2 vehicles, and 2 tents. A trailer counts as a vehicle.

No parking or overnighting outside of reserved campsites. Vehicles unable to fit inside the campsite must park outside the park.

View the driveway length, notes, and allowable equipment to confirm whether the campsite is level and long enough for both your trailer and vehicle before booking.

Site #8 is special needs accessible. Electric use is permitted for medical equipment only.

No Showers. The restroom has flush toilets and sinks.

Drinking water faucets are located throughout the campground. Hose connections/tank filling prohibited.

All sites have a picnic table, raised grill, food storage box, and tent pad.

Hanging of hammocks or any items from trees or other vegetation is prohibited.

Quiet hours are from 8:00 pm to 8:00 am. Generators allowed: 8-10 am & 4-6 pm.

No horse camping or horse trailers in the monument. Please check Coronado National Forest for Horse Camping.

Natural Features

Set in a pine and oak forest, Bonita Canyon Campground provides an atmosphere of relaxation. Most campsites have shade. The Bonita Creek is dry most of the year but may run during summer monsoon or winter snows.

This helpful handout includes a map with sites suitable for trailers and RVs, fire information, and key rules.

Reservations not claimed within 24 hours of check‑in (by noon the following day) may be cancelled. The visitor center cannot make exceptions or hold reservations for late arrivals. Please, modify your reservation if you expect to arrive late.

Your truck and trailer together must fit within the length of the driveway. Vehicles may not fit side by side.

Each vehicle or trailer cannot exceed 29 feet (8.8 m). Very tall or wide vehicles, or anything with more than 9.5 feet of overhang, may scrape the road or trees when entering or leaving the campground. Check the site notes to make sure the site is level and driveway is long enough for both vehicles.

Arrival time: noon or later. Check out by 11 am. Please note: reservations will be cancelled if site is not occupied within 24 hours.

Quiet hours 8 pm to 8 am . Generators allowed 8-10 am and 4-6 pm .

Each campsite is allowed a maximum of 8 people , 2 vehicles , and 2 tents . You must be able to fit all of your things into your site. A trailer counts as a vehicle. Book additional sites if you have more than 2 tents or 2 vehicles.

The Group Site is for tent campers only: 9 to 24 people . No trailers or RVs. Max 5 small vehicles.

No overnight parking is allowed in the park. Excess vehicles, trailers, and anything unable to fit or not permitted in the site must be left outside the park .

Nothing can be tied to a tree. Hammocks, tarps, and showers tied to trees are prohibited. Please protect our trees from bark beetles.

Use metal food storage boxes provided to deter bears, skunks, mice, and other wildlife. Any food or coolers left out without campers present may be confiscated. Keep a clean campsite for your safety and the safety of other campers and wildlife. Please note: feeding wildlife and birds is prohibited.

Dogs or other pets must be leashed at all times and cannot be left unattended . Please note: dogs are prohibitied on many trails through the rocks. Hikers may want to leave dogs at home.

Restroom has flush toilets. No showers. Drinking water faucets are located throughout the campground. No bathing or dishwashing is allowed at spigots.

Soapy water should be disposed of in the 2 gray water disposals. No hose connections, hook ups or blackwater dump. Freshwater draining prohibited.

When allowed, campfires are permitted only in designated grills. Ground fires are never allowed. Wood and kindling gathering is prohibited in the park. Fires may be restricted at anytime, especially during dry periods April to July.

New in 2025: Unsafe or hazardous materials in fires prohibited. Only safer, common fuels such as purchased firewood or charcoal are permitted. Lighting or maintaining a fire using flammable liquids, garbage, plastics, or other synthetic materials is strictly prohibited.

There is no food, ice, gas, or vehicle charging available in the park. Willcox, AZ, is the closest town and is 37 miles (59 km) from the park.
